A Magical Moroccan Cooking Class Experience
We were cooking up something truly unforgettable in Tangiers!
Team Goho recently swapped laptops for ladles as we joined a traditional Moroccan cooking class in Tangiers, and it was every bit as magical as it sounds.
Thanks to the wonderful team at Emerald Cruises, we were whisked away on a Mediterranean adventure that left us brimming with ideas for future events. From the shimmering coastline to the buzzing markets, this journey was a sensory feast from start to finish.
A Taste of Tangiers
Our trip began in vibrant Tangiers, where colours, scents and sounds collide in the most mesmerising way. We wandered through bustling souks, browsed stalls filled with handcrafted treasures, and did a little local shopping as well.
But the highlight, the moment we are still dreaming about, was our authentic Moroccan cooking class.
Cooking With the Local Masters
The class opened with a warm welcome from our instructors, a group of local Moroccan women with a lifelong passion for cooking from The Blue Door. Some of them have been making tagine since they were 12 years old, and their expertise shone through every step.
We began with a live demonstration on how to make traditional Moroccan buns, shaped and baked to pair perfectly with our tagine. Then it was our turn to get hands-on.
We chopped meats and vegetables, learned which spices create the signature Moroccan flavour, and layered everything into a traditional tagine pot to slow-cook. The aroma alone was worth the trip.
Then, the ladies brewed traditional Moroccan tea as we waited for our tajins to cook. They took their time to show us each ingredient that went into the tea, from sugar, cinnamon, saffron, mint, cloves and cardamom. It was warm, fragrant and the perfect pick me up!
This was an unforgettable Moroccan culinary class, and easily one of the most inspiring moments of our entire trip.
